An annual autumn tradition, the exchange meeting between officials from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and international students majoring in civil engineering at Japanese universities was held on October 21.
The event traces its origin back to 2014, when a student from Nepal government studying in Japan expressed a desire to visit MLIT. With the kind cooperation of Mr. Wataguchi, a JIP member, this wish became reality and marked the beginning of this ongoing initiative. Although the event was suspended for three years during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has since continued each year.
Participants’ communication skills and the depth of discussions have noticeably improved over time, reflecting the growing enthusiasm and mutual understanding among attendees.
This exchange serves as a valuable opportunity for young people who share a passion for international collaboration to engage with Japan’s infrastructure policy and engineering practices.
We sincerely hope that these connections will inspire future projects that bridge Japan and the world, fostering sustainable development through shared knowledge and partnership.
